Schedule maintenance
Announce planned work that starts and completes on its own.
Schedule the window
In Maintenance, choose Schedule window:
- Title: what people see, such as "Database upgrade".
- Starts (UTC) and Ends (UTC): the window must end after it starts. Allow some slack at the end; finishing early is better news than overrunning.
- Message: what will happen and what people may notice.
- Components under maintenance.
Subscribers following those components hear about it at once.
Let it run
At the start time, the window moves to In progress, its components show Maintenance, and subscribers are told. At the end time it completes, the components return to what their monitors and incidents say, and subscribers are told again. You don't need to do anything.
Changing plans
- Edit a window any time before it completes. To end a running window early, set its end time to now; to extend it, move the end later.
- Cancel a window that hasn't started. It completes at once and subscribers hear it was cancelled.
When it goes wrong
Monitors keep checking during a window, but their transitions are recorded as suppressed. If the work causes a real outage, extend the window or publish an incident: the window only covers what you announced.
