Slack
Post incident and maintenance updates to a Slack channel.
Galena posts to Slack through an incoming webhook: a URL that posts into one channel. It needs no Slack app install beyond creating the webhook.
Create the incoming webhook
In Slack, create an app for your workspace (or use an existing one), turn on Incoming
Webhooks, and add a webhook for the channel. Copy its URL; it starts with
https://hooks.slack.com/.
Add it to Galena
In Subscribers, choose Add destination, pick Slack incoming webhook, give it a name (such as the channel), paste the URL, and optionally choose the components it follows.
Galena encrypts the URL as soon as it's saved and never shows it again.
Send a test
Send test posts a "Test notification" to the channel and shows what Slack answered.
What a message looks like
Each message has a header with the incident or window's title, then a colour bar in the state's colour holding:
- for incidents: the status, impact, affected components with their statuses, and when it started;
- for maintenance: the status, components, start and end;
- the latest update or the window's message;
- a button to read the incident or see the status page.
The state is always written out and marked with its glyph, so it reads without the colour.
When Slack refuses
A revoked or deleted webhook answers with an error. The delivery fails at once and the destination is marked Failing since that time. Delete it and add a new webhook.
